On the Road Again

It’s been several  months since my last post…back home doing business again! BUT, we are once again actively retiring! We’ve sold one business and the other one is running under someone else right now!

We spent the summer turning our home into a second B&B on our winery property: The Manor at Deer Creek Winery.  It took many more hours than we thought, but it is now open and we are not there!  Our team is doing well and working hard.

We also upgraded our camper to a Reflection fifth wheel that has a bit more room.

We can truly sing “on the road again”……as we left our home state for our first big trip to Maine!  One trip I have been looking forward to for many years!  It started with a detour to our son’s place near Allentown, PA where we watched our grandsons while he and his wife got away for a much needed vacation!

We took a few days getting up to Maine which I will write about later, and then anchored our RV in Bangor for 5 days while we went sightseeing and then moved down to Saco Maine for the last 4 days.

It was a great trip and we discovered some things about how we want to do this new FT RVing and where our limits are.  It is tiring driving around looking at new locations everyday especially if you don’t get back home until after 8pm!  Here are some things we discovered about it:

  • Stay 2 nights every third night when traveling from destination to destination.  Some excursions can take place that middle day, but not more than 5-6 hours being away from “home”
  • 3-4 hour drives according to Google Maps which means 4-5 actual hours
  • Having base camp is good and then drive out to destination places to explore
  • 4-5 nights at a time someplace seems like a good balance
  • We did one night boon docking at Wal-mart which was ok
    • Next time we’ll pick a Wal-Mart in a smaller town rather than at a BIG multiple Interstate area
    • We’ll stay put until it’s light out especially if it’s raining
    • I think we’ll try a Harvest Host the next time we want to boon dock!

On our way back, our son and family joined us for a night with 2 little boys, it was so much fun!  It was a bit crowded, but for a night it was just fine and we all had a great time!  We did  find out that out couch does not turn into a comfortable bed!  We’ll have to do some adjustments before 2 can sleep there comfortablyt

Then we came back to our winery and stayed in our “used to be home” B&B, it felt good to have a major trip under our belt and it felt good that our team was doing well without us there!
